Fine/Thin Hair To Voluminous Locks | How To Style

I have fine AND thin hair. There's nothing wrong with that, but for me personally? Nah, I've never liked it. I don't mind too much that it's quite fine, I just wish there was a bit more of it growing out me 'ead. Since I was about 15 I have loved big hair, and ever since I've been trying to find ways of making fine hair look as big and as voluminous as poss. Back then, I did a pretty shitty job, I'm not gonna lie. My hair was already in god awful condition, and I thought the answer to big luscious locks was to backcomb the crap out of it, followed by half a can of cheap hairspray. All I achieved through that method was the bird nest-esque look.

I think it's a lot easier to make my hair look a bit thicker after two years of nursing it back to perfect health. Here are my weapons of choice:

voluminous hairstyles, voluminous haircuts, hairstyles, hairstyles 2017, hairspray, fudge urban hairspray review, batiste dry shampoo heavenly volume, batiste stylist texturising spray, hair colours, blue hair, blue hair dye, blue hair girl, arctic fox poseidon,

First off, I cut my hair short. I literally spent 6 years+ trying to grow it out long. I finally got it to almost boob length, the longest my hair had ever been in my life, by far. So what do I go and do? Get it chopped back to length it was that I hated for sooo long. Funny, cos I love it now. Shorter hair definitely appears thicker than long hair, especially if styled well. I also got it all chopped to the same length, which helps with the thickness perception. But it still looks thin af without my three key products.

The Batiste Heavenly Volume Dry Shampoo was a big game changer for me. I'd had my eye on it for a while, but it took me time to actually buy it. It's more expensive than the other Batiste dry shampoos, and tbh I didn't think it would do much more in the way of volume than the others already did. Oh, how I was wrong. I spray a small amount of this onto my roots after my hair has been washed and dried. I say small because you really don't need a lot. The volume this stuff adds to your roots is crazy. If you're somebody who doesn't like the feeling of product in your hair then this ain't for you. You can feel that it's there. It doesn't feel horrible, it just gives your hair a lot more grip, which my hair deffo needs. I use an even smaller amount the following days if I need to absorb any oil up.

I've actually stopped straightening my hair as I do not think it helps to make it look big and voluminous. I'm now totally on curling now. I either quickly wave it with my straighteners, or if I have a bit more time, curl it with my old Mark Hill tapered curling wand (as I have done here).

The Batiste Stylist Texturizing Spray is another new favourite. I haven't tried any other texturizing sprays so I can't make any comparisons, but I'm gonna go ahead and say that this one is pretty darn good. After I have curled/waved my hair, I'll spray some of this onto the roots and lengths and ruffle my hair with my fingertips. This instantly gives it more volume. I do still backcomb, but obvs no where near as much as my 16 year old self. I use The Wet Brush, and backcomb each of the curls a tiny bit.

I then either flick some of my hair over to create a voluminous side parting (as I have done here), or tie the top third up to create the standard half up top knot. I then finish off with a light spray of the Fudge Urban Iced Raspberry and Vanilla Hairspray. Bit more expensive then your standard Tresemme, but you literally need the smallest amount, and it smells amazing.

Thought I'd go back to my 16 year old self and wear a massive vintage men's shirt as a dress. Back then I would've gone super casj, most likely with a massive denim jacket - pretty standard. Or I would have mixed things up with my massive vintage leather jacket, complete with fringing along the arms and across the back. I've definitely moved on from that laid back grunge style now. I obvs still love 90's grunge fashion - it will probably have a place in my heart forever - but I enjoy making outfits look a tad less laid back right now.

I swapped the oversized vintage jacket out for the cosiest blanket scarf in existence (H&M are killing the game with their scarf collection atm), and a pair of heeled velvet boots.

Styling The Silver Puffer Jacket

A silver puffer jacket? A bold choice even for me. I feel like it's actually very wearable though, especially styled casually with a pair of jeans and converse.

I'm struggling to come up with anything to write. Like, I know what I want to write but I'm ill, my brain isn't working. I'm gonna go as far as to say that this cold is the worst cold I have had in my life. I haven't had a cold in years - this must be karma for thinking I was immune to them last week. Anyways, because my brain is mush rn, I'm gonna list the reasons why this metallic monstrosity is my fav coat atm:

  1. It's the warmest thing I have ever worn - like I'm not even exaggerating, I hate going outside into arctic conditions, but I can just about survive it wearing my silver puffer.
  2. It's massive. I love oversized things that engulf me. Why wouldn't you want this in the winter?
  3. It reminds me of the 90's babyyyy.
  4. It's silver. Do I even need to say anymore?

I'm gonna go as far as to say that these are my fave lipsticks at the moment. Pictured above is Stark Naked and below is Hitch Hike. I love the packaging. It does feel a little lightweight but I swoon over the gun metal and gold together. The lid satisfyingly clicks on and feels pretty secure. I doubt they'll be any messy lipstick episodes in your bag because the lid has decided to detach itself (we've all been through these tough times), but I can't vouch  for that because I haven't taken these out on a day trip with me yet. The UD logo embossed onto the bullet is a nice touch as well.

In terms of their feel on the lips, it's a yes from me. They don't feel thick and heavy like some lipsticks do, super creamy, lightweight and comfortable. You can't say that about a many mattes, right? Which brings me onto my next point, the finish; because these are 'Comfort Mattes', they don't look 100% matte, more of a luminous matte. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed that they didn't come up a teeny bit more matte, but I can't really complain - fully matte lipsticks dry my lips out waaaaayyyy too much for my liking. No one likes the prune lips look.

The application is a bloody dream. Because the formula is so creamy the lipstick it glides on incredibly easily. What's even better, you only need one swipe. The pigmentation is that good that your lips are opaque with colour after a single swipe. I mean I do layer it up, just out of habit, but you really don't need too.

And finally, the long awaited lasting power. I was actually quite surprised. Not really with the longevity, that was just ya standard 4 hours(ish). But I put some on about half hour before I ate dinner and I was pleasantly surprised that it was all, pretty much, still intact. Usually I have a dark lipstick outline on the edge of my lips after I've eaten, which ain't a good look.

10/10, would wear again. If you're not too fussed about them not being 100% matte, I would deffo recommend the Comfort Mattes in the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick range.

It's been almost three weeks since I last posted. And I wasn't very on the ball with blogging/social media the week or two before that. I'm sure you all can relate, but sometimes ya just get a bit demotivated with it all and, to put it truthfully, can't really be arsed. So I went on the infamous blogging break for a few weeks, and trusssssttt me that break is needed sometimes. It was nice not worrying about when I'm gonna have a chance to take outfit pics, or twitter chats, or not having anything to post on Instagram tomorrow. But I'm back bitchez, and this time I come armed with a bright pink fur jacket, faux ofc.

My obsession with pink is clearly still in full force, and I've got the converse to prove it. Obvs, pink converse aren't the most versatile, but they're fun and can easily add a pop of colour to a monochrome outfit. Me being me, I've gone all out with the pop of pink and added my new fave jacket into the mix. I think this was probably the quickest purchase I've ever made. I literally went onto the Asos site to link something to a blog post (not to buy anything, I promise), and this beautiful pink jacket on the homepage caught my eye. A quick search of 'pink fur jacket' helped me track it down, and I was typing in my payment details within 30 seconds. When you know, you know. And when I saw this jacket, I knew. It surprisingly goes with quite a few outfits, but I've just gone for all black this time round.

My second star purchase is these ripped skinny jeans from Missguided. I've never bought a pair of jeans from Missguided before, and I was a bit dubious as their sizing can be really off at times. But let me just say this - best pair of jeans I have ever bought. Very big statement to make, but hear me out - these are the stretchiest jeans I have ever come across. There's nothing worse when you're wearing skinny jeans and they have next to no stretch which makes moving ya legs an uncomfortable mission. These are the opposite of that, I swear they've got near to the same stretch as leggings, but the denim still looks like real denim. And not to mention, the rips look pretty badass. 10/10, would buy again.

Update: Annnnnddd, I've just had a look on the Asos website to link the jacket and it's no where to be found.
