The Average Girl's Guide To Festival Style | There's A Hole In My Dress

If you didn't catch last weeks post in my festival series, click here to have a little look.

I remember the first festival I ever attended.  Reading 2011, baby.  It was a good'un.  I saw the likes of Muse, Pulp, Panic! At The Disco and My Chemical Romance (amongst others), who were my fave band at the time.  I still have a wall plastered with Gerard Way's face in my room, which I'm not complaining about!

My first festival also meant my first real taste of festival fashion.  It returns every summer, and this year coming back stronger than most.  The popularity of the style is so widespread.  From avid festival goer's, to those who much prefer the luxury of a shower and a clean toilet, everyone seems to be taking part.  The style incorporates boho elements from the hippie movement of the 60's.  England's own little twist revolves around wellies and Dr Martens to deal with the lovely mud-filled festivals we hold, courtesy of none other than... the rain.  Boo.

So in the spirit of it's return, every Monday up until I attend Bestival in September, I am going to be posting an outfit that I deem 'festivally enough' to venture into the world of camping, alcohol and live music.

 Dress - Topshop
Bralet - H&M
Boots - Dr Martens
Sunflower Clip - Claire's Accessories
Backpack - Primark
Necklace & Choker - eBay

Anyone one have any idea what bra to wear under this dress?  I played it safe with a triangle bralet thing, but what if I wanted my back to be completely bare?  A backless bra just wouldn't make the cut - it would show though the massive arm hole bit of the dress and I doubt that would be a very good look.  There's no other options, I don't think, do you see my problem?  Suggestions welcome.

Other than awkward bra issues, this dress is the best purchase I ever made... Okay, I lied.  This dress is the best purchase my mum ever made.  Like I can afford to be splashing out at Topshop at the moment!  It's super duper comfy and most definitely not too short.  I'd be happy showing off half my bra in this at Bestival (seriously, what bra do you wear???).

Paired with some docs (or wellies if you prefer), your most outrageous pair of sunglasses (these heart shaped ones are about as outrageous as my sunglasses collection gets, sorry), and some flowers in your hair, you'll be ready to face the festival world.

  1. I feel like that bra is the only choice, and it's a good one! Definitely goes with the edgy cool vibe you're going for. I love this look, it's super cool!

  2. that bra is a good choice, maybe just a nude t-shirt bra if you found one to match your skin tone. love the dress, Liberty x

  3. I love the look and every time I'm looking for a black lace bralet, it's like they all disappear. Anyway, there's this silicone bra I purchased from ebay after seeing it on Pinterest. It literally just covers your breasts and is held by a clamp between your breasts. (Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/stick-on-silicone-adhesive-bra-push-up-gel-strapless-invisible-backless-freebra-/141351094680?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item20e92e8998) Search trough a little bit, there's different shapes. They're quite inexpensive as well! Ok, sorry for the long post. x

  4. I love the dress but I probably wouldn't wear it because of the bra-issues. I'm the pickiest person ever in that regard. Maybe you could try a bandeau top? Newlook has great ones for a couple of pounds. Alternatively, I'd suggest this Brandy Melville bralet: http://www.brandymelvilleusa.com/clothing/intimates/chiyo-top-001.html I think it'd go so well with the dress! That one looks cool, too! http://www.brandymelvilleusa.com/clothing/intimates/joy-top-001.html

    1. I love them both! They would look so much better than the lace bralet I am wearing, I might try and find some cheaper versions somewhere, and if I can I will get them! Thanks for your suggestions!

  18. I love this festival look, and it seems like something that I would wear. I really, really like those heart shaped sunglasses because they give your outfit a more "girly" vibe. If you're on the lookout for cool bras to wear with that dress, you should check out Free People. They have some pretty cute bralettes that stand out when you wear backless dresses.

  40. This is an awesome outfit! I really like the vintage look and feel out this outfit! And the heart shades look really good on you by the way! Personally I think that funky accessories like bold flower crowns and quirky sunglasses and vintage and/or bohemian inspired clothing such as fringy kimonos, maxi skirts, and distressed shorts paired with combat boots or even an edgy pair of gladiator sandals makes for the perfect outfit to wear to a festival which is why I can't wait to actually go to one! (that is if I ever get the funds for it!)

  41. What about stickies? They're a little annoying but I'm pretty sure they won't show since theyre flesh toned and they're quite small. I love this festival look and I totally wish I could go to one. I'm so jealous! haha lovely look regardless

  47. Wow, very interesting. Personally I love articles about dresses especially by the way. Especially backless dresses which are combined with a breast sticker. I always use them in combination with http://byebra.com
breast stickers which is a breast tape. Ever seen that?
